Albany was the first established European settlement in Western Australia and is now one of the largest cities outside of Perth with a population of approximately 30,000.
A thriving City, seaport and the administrative hub for the region. Albany has one of the most attractive coastline settings; endowed with an interesting history and an abundance of attractions and activities. Its about a 4 1/2 hours drive from Perth and less than an hour by air. It offers visitors cooler summers and mild winters.
It is hard to imagine a more ideal harbour. The seas of the Southern Ocean can lash this coast with wild storms and the notorious southern wind, 'the Albany Doctor', can blow the ocean into a fury. Yet the sailor can enter King George Sound and then, through a narrow channel between Point King and Point Possession, enter the quiet waters of Princess Royal Harbour.
Unlike nearly all of Western Australia, Albany is cool and wet. It receives an average of 942 mm of rainfall per annum and its average summer temperature is only 22.4°C.
Albany is a part of the Western Australia’s South West Region. Other areas in this region include Denmark, Kendenup, Mount Barker, Porongurup, Torbay and Walpole.
